Shopaholics...

Ok so the twins aren't exactly at that point yet, but we did have our first shopping trip yesterday. Being the amazing children they are they slept the entire time! It was great. Plus I finally learned how to use the Double Snap & Go stroller I've had (A real lifesaver, and extremely easy to fold up and pop out).

I ventured out to the Outlets with my sister-in-law, niece, and the twins. Now a double stroller isn't exactly the easiest to maneuver around the store, but I think I did pretty good for the first time. I only knocked off a few clothes off the hangers and ran into maybe 5 displays. I even figured out how to open the door and push the stroller through myself. Although, I will say people are very willing to help you out when they see you have two babies. All in all it was a good trip and I think I might start venturing out a little more now that I know I can handle it.

Oh and we got a few really cute things for a great price! I'm teaching them bargain shopping!

When you Must Hose Down Your Child...

Ok, so I didn't technically take my daughter outside and crank up the hose, BUT I did go with a more gentle approach to "Hosing" down my child. I stuck her under the faucet. What caused me to resort to such things? Oh that would be the epic poop she decided to use as a moisturizer.

Let me bring you back to Sunday, the day of said epic poop. We were driving home from the beach and I knew she was doing something in the back seat. She was grunting and groaning and her face kept getting red. Then she spit up EVERYWHERE! So when we get home both the twins are screaming for food so I decided to feed them before we changed them. Ryan took Cavan and I took Kaylie. When I tell you the odor that came from my child, it was just toxic. Of course at first I thought it was just the smell of her spit up all over her (which I should mention was part of it). Then I got a whiff of something a little more foul permeating into my nose. I lifted up her cute little dress only to see one of the most horrific sites EVER! Her little once white onsie was now greenish brown!

Now I've had my fair share of diaper changes, but I honestly had no idea where to even begin with this one! How do I get the outfit off without getting poop all over her? Will the wipes really clean this mess up? The only thing I could think to do was hose down my child, but I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to hose down an 11 week old. So I thought, the faucet, similar concept, more acceptable, right? It was off to the tub for us. I carefully rolled the outfit off her, and successfully got it off without spreading the monstrosity. Then I started running the water and check the temp. I then just stuck my daughter under the faucet and just rinsed and rinsed and rinsed. Then I soaped her up and rinsed again...and again...and repeat.

I think the funniest part of the whole thing was the look I got from Kaylie when I stuck her under the faucet. It was a "What in the world do you think you are doing to me" look. Looking back it was pretty funny, but at the time, I was horrified! I'm sure it won't be the last time either.

Talk Up Tuesday

My Talk Up Tuesday submission today is The Lame Sauce. This blog is anything but lame. It's from a Dad's perspective and it's funny to see things from the other side. He is also the artist behind Modern Bird Studios. They're artwork is just beautiful and as soon as I have some money I am getting one of these paintings done!!! So I guess technically I'm talking up two pages today, but definitely check them out!

As always if you have a blog you want to talk up, just grab the button, write a post, and link it up below! Happy Tuesday all!

Sleep...Becoming Less Overrated

I am happy to report that my children's sleep patterns are getting MUCH better. I don't know if it is just because we were at the beach all weekend and they got A LOT of fresh, sea air, but the past 3 nights they only woke up once in the middle of the night to eat! The first night I looked at the clock when they started to fuss and couldn't believe it had been 6 hours from their last feeding! No that wasn't a typo, 6 HOURS! Since then they have gone anywhere between 5 and 6 hours at night!

However, we are now back home and the twins had no sea air today. I did take them outside for a bit so maybe just the regular fresh air will do. So hopefully the pattern will continue or even get better! I will say though, the sleep has been so much better and I will not take it for granted ever again!

Success...

Success takes on a whole new meaning when you become a Mom. Just a short time ago, success meant that I had a good job, a nice place to live, a nice car, etc.. Well now let me give you a list of the successes of a new Mom:
  • Going 4 hours between feedings at night... Success
  • Finishing pooping (or peeing) BEFORE the diaper is taken off... Success
  • Me getting out of my Pj's for the day... Success
  • Me getting to take a shower... Success
  • Going a full day without puke on my shoulder... Success
  • Only one wardrobe change throughout the day for the twins... Success
  • Being on time anywhere... Success
  • Only one load of laundry a day... Success
  • Not losing 4 pacifiers a day... Success
  • My son not peeing on his face during his bath... Success
  • Eating a hot meal... Success
So as you can see, my successes have changed slightly. They're a little more specific and a little smaller than before, but they make a world of difference when accomplished. It's funny how your perspective changed when another life (or two) enter your world.

How I Met Your Father...

Still continuing on the D-Listed Blog Party. So Click Here to check out my blog party post.

Yesterday I mentioned that I have known my husband for 22 years and a lot of my readers were very impressed by that. So how did it all begin? So kids, let me tell you about the year 1988. I was 6 years old and my Mom and Step-Father had brought me to the place that would change my life forever: Little Compton, RI. My Step-Father's Cousin had a little cottage in a camp ground down there and would let us occasionally stay there. Well, I wasn't the only kid there. We quickly became friends with a lot of the other kids in the camp ground. We would run rampant playing games of Fox and Hound or just sitting on the basketball court and talking.

Of the people I became friends with, one was named Katie. Well Katie had an older brother named Ryan. In 1988, to a 6 year old, Ryan was a boy and therefore had cooties and was weird! Most boys were at that age. As the years went on, I still saw Ryan as just Katie's older brother and nothing more. We would only hang out if we were all playing some game or all hanging at their cottage.

Fast forward to the year 2000. Ryan entered into the United States Coast Guard and I went to College. We didn't see each other for 4 years. Well let me be the first to tell you, 4 years can make a lifetime's difference. I was at a benefit dance with some of my friends one night and Ryan's mom had told me that he was coming and that we should hang out with him. In he walked and it was like I was seeing him for the first time.

No longer did I see Katie's older brother. No longer did I see that weird kid with cooties. I saw Ryan. I would like to tell you that it was love from that point on, however, that wasn't exactly the case. We did spend the night dancing and talking and oh yeah, drinking. I apparently told him I was going up to my room to change into sweats and I'd meet him at the after party. Well, I never made it to the after party. My friends graciously put a drunk girl to bed for the night and Ryan was gone.

Fast Forward to May of 2005. I saw Ryan again down in Little Compton, RI. From their we caught each other's attention yet again and never let it out of our site. We got engaged in August of 2007, married in July 2008, pregnant in November 2008, miscarried in March 2009, pregnant with twins in July 2009, Had our twins in March 2010. Our Journey, still leaving footprints behind from that one summer in 1988 in Little Compton, RI.

2 Month Appointment and First Trip...

First off, if you haven't seen my Blog Party post, click here!
The twins had their 2 month checkup today. They are happy and healthy little babies. Here is the lowdown!

Kaylie:
  • Weight: 11lbs 6oz, Height: 21.5 inches
  • We have an appointment on June 28th to follow up with the urologist on Kaylie's kidneys. They just want to make sure the urine is not flushing back into her kidneys which would cause some damage.
  • Has a little bit of Thrush on her tongue, so we are starting an antibiotic to help cure that.
  • Her two strawberry birthmarks look ok and should start to fade between 6 months to 2 years
  • She does favor her right side, which we do know, so we have to work on repositioning her more often not only to avoid flat head, but also to prevent her ears from shifting. Right now her right ear is slightly forward which is correctable at this point. So we will be working on loosening her neck muscles and getting her to lay on alternating sides.
  • We got a couple more tips to help with her gas bubbles (Cav's too). We can still use the Gripe Water that we have been. We can also try gas drops, but we also got some all natural remedies as well. We are going to try 2-3 drops of chamomile tea in their formula. Also we are getting some acidophilus to help as well.
  • Lastly, because she favors her right side, formula is getting caught in her neck causing it to become a little raw. So the Dr. recommended putting a little corn starch on her neck to help keep it dry and prevent a yeast infection from forming.

Cavan:
  • Weight: 10lbs 15oz, Height 21.25 inches
  • We also have to work on repositioning him because his ears are slighty off as well. Not as much as Kaylie's, but still off.
  • He has a bit of Thrush too. He probably caught it from Kaylie because his case is a little more mild. We are going to start him on the antibiotics as well. We also have to steralize EVERYTHING to prevent it from continuing.
They both also got their 2 month shots and their Rotavirus drink vaccine so as you can imagine, they are wiped today.

They also had their first trip this past weekend. They were perfect on the plane! Slept the entire time both ways! They really couldn't have been any better. Although, I could have done without Cavan pooping right as we were taxiing away from the gate. I will say though it was hard even with 4 of us because of all the stuff! We had the stroller, car seats, bases, and luggage. It was a lot to lug everywhere, but we did it.

We really had a great time in Ohio and it was really great to see our family. The twins partied it up at the rehearsal dinner and wedding! Kaylie decided to poop 7 minutes before the ceremony started. My mom and I looked like an Indy race car team changing her diaper so we didn't miss the start of the ceremony. Then they did great and pretty much slept the whole time. We danced a bit, Kaylie was really getting into "Shout" and of course they came out to the dance floor for  our family song "Funky Cold Medina" (Yes that is our family song). Cavan and I also got a little slow dance in. It really was a great wedding and I hope the twins didn't steal the show too much from my cousin and his wife. I know we all had a great time!

D-Listed Blog Party!

First off if you don't know what the D-Listed Blog Party is click here!
MMButton
For those of you participating in the blog party, welcome to my blog! Let me tell you a little bit about me. I'm a twenty something mother of two to the most precious little twins. I am married to a wonderful man whom I've known for 22 years! We got married almost 2 years ago on the 4th of July. I am currently a stay at home mom, but I am looking into completing my teachers license testing to become a math teacher. We have been through quite a journey together from marriage, a miscarriage, and the miracle of twins.

So that's my life in a nutshell. It may not always be the most glamorous, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. So take a peak around and if you like what you see I would love it if you would follow me or subscribe to my blog.

Also be sure to check out my 101 in 1001 Challenge and my Project 365!

Baby Ultrasound...

No, no, no, not for me! I may go a bit crazy if that were the case. The twins had their hip ultrasounds today. Because they were both breach when I had my C-Section, they had to check to make sure their hips were all in the right place. Well, everything looked great! They were both so good during the whole process too.

Kaylie also had to have her kidneys checked out because she had some fluid around her left one when she was still in the womb. She still has some fluid, but it's still nothing to be too concerned about. It apparently can be one of two things; either she has a bent tube that doesn't flush out the fluid entirely or reflux (different from acid reflux). The first one is the less serious of the two. Our pediatrician will let us know Monday when we go for their 2 month checkup what our next step is. No cause for concern at this point though, so we are relieved!

Then we made a couple stops on the way home. The twins were "Show and Tell" in their Mimi's school. All the teachers and students thought they were so cute and couldn't get over ALL that hair!

We are all packed up and ready for our trip this weekend. We leave tomorrow morning. Everyone please keep your fingers crossed that we are not "Those" people on the plane and that our babies are well behaved.

See you when we get back, hopefully with some pictures in their cute wedding outfits!

Lies, lies!

Whoever said if you let the babies fall asleep on their own in their, they'll sleep better/longer lied to me. I tried it last night and Cavan was up every 2 hours! Maybe this is something you have to keep working at, but I was not a fan of it last night. I'm starting to suspect that books aren't always the answer. More on that later.

Miscellany Monday

My friend and sorority sister Shelby, of First Comes Love, Then Comes Baby, had a cute and fun post on her site and I decided to join in!

Carissa over at Lowercase Letters had started Miscellany Monday and opened it up to everyone. Basically you post 5 random snipets that you may not normally blog about. Well here are mine!

{1} The Substitute - yes, that could be my new title in the fall. I have applied to be a substitute teacher in town. I am also going to sign up to retake the math part of the Teacher's Test in July. Being a Stay at home mom didn't last all that long now did it?

{2} My cousin is getting married this weekend. I cannot wait to get away for the weekend. It may not be to an exotic or tropical place, but it is a little vacation none-the-less. Plus I always love our family get-togethers. It'll be time to get a little Funky...Cold Medina!

{3} Betty White was amazing on SNL this weekend. If you haven't seen it already, Hulu is your friend!

{4} My Mom gave me Mother's Day money to spend on just myself and that is exactly what I plan to do. I haven't bought anything for just me in SO long. So what will I buy? New clothes? A massage? A New Purse? Any Suggestions?

{5} I really, strongly dislike ticks! They are everwhere and I keep checking my head. It has become an obsession of mine. Not a fun one I might add. How do you get rid of these dang things?

Go ahead and visit Carissa's page and join in. It's fun!

What Mother's Day Means to Me

Two precious smiles at the sound of my voice.
Unconditional love and dependence from two tiny little babies.
Two blessings from above that I've waited so long for.
Two snuggle buddies to keep us all warm.
Two little sponges who take in all that they see.
A part of my husband and a part of me that we will forever cherish.
A new scent for me called Eau de Spit up.
More than just the presents I received today, I got the greatest presents 2 months ago.
The happiest little family I could ever dream of.
And so much more than words will ever explain.

2 Months!!!

Cavan and Kaylie are 2 months old today. I can't believe how fast time is going by! It's absolutely amazing to see how much they change every day. Not just how they look, but they are so much more alert. They really look at us now and know who we are. They look at each other and just coo. They respond to our voices and smile so big when we talk to them. They also will occasionally let out a little laugh.

Kaylie is the typical girl trying to talk all the time. Just put her next to Cavan and she runs the show. Cavan barely gets a word in at all.

Cavan is the typical boy and has learned to pull Kaylie's hair now. Typical brother picking on his sister. I love just watching them interact with each other. Be sure to check out my Project 365 Blog to see their 2 Month picture!

Sleep Routine - Day 2

So I got some very helpful tips from some of my readers yesterday and put them to work. They didn't sleep through the night, but they slept more to a schedule. I am also happy to report that we did not play the pacifier game at all last night! I call that a success.

I basically went with the 1-4-7-10 feeding schedule and they stuck right to it! After their feedings I tried to keep them up for a bit during the day, so they didn't sleep all day. Then after the 7:00 feeding they had a bath. We then put the in the crib after their 10:00 feeding. I did notice that my son only had about 2 1/2oz at the 1:00 feeding and really didn't seem that interested in it to begin with. I'm thinking he either only woke up because his sister did or because his body was schedule trained.

So now my questions for today: Did your babies just all of a sudden one day sleep through the night, or did you work at it? Also, Cav usually eats about 4oz per feeding and Kaylie is about 3 1/2 (it's the only amount that doesn't induce prjectile spit ups). How many oz of formula per feeding were your babies eating at 2 months?

Sleep Routine = Semi Fail

Last night I tried out a new sleep routine with the twins. They really haven't had one since we brought them home and I thought maybe it would help them sleep through the night. So here's pretty much a summary of how the night went:

7:00 PM - diaper change w/ calming lotion massage
7:15 - Bottle
8:00 - Put twins in crib for bed
8:01 - Kaylie fell asleep
9:30 - Cavan finally fell asleep
11:30 - They woke up, diaper change and feeding
12:00 AM to 2:30 - Kaylie plays the pacifier game
2:30 - Diaper change and feeding (Cavan eat 2oz and passes out)
3:00 - Kaylie wakes up hungry, finishes Cavan's bottle
4:30 - Cavan wakes up hungry, eats 1.5oz
5:15 - Cavan has a stuffy nose, put him on his boppy to sleep
6:00 - Kaylie plays pacifier game
6:30 - Diaper change and feeding

Needless to say, night one was a fail. I am going to keep up with it though because I know it won't happen overnight. They did go 4.5 hours after the 7:00 bottle so that is progress. I'm also going to work on keeping them up more during the day to see if that helps too.

Any other suggestions?

Did You Notice??

Look over to the right ---->

Yup, you can now subscribe to my blog. This way you will be notified by email everytime I ramble post something new! I don't know why I didn't think of doing this before.

Also, I'm sorry for all the blog wardrobe changes lately. I'm still trying to get it exactly where I want it. I think I'm pretty satisfied with it this week. And why the blue color you ask? Well it's the color of the twin's birthstone (aquamarine).

Lastly, how about a quick update? Well we were supposed to have someone move into our condo, but it all fell through. Needless to say we were pretty bummed by the whole thing. So we've relisted it on Craigslist. If anyone's looking for a place let me know! We really want to get this rented soon! Other than that it's the same old thing. The twins are wonderful and growing more everyday. They've started mimicking us when we stick our tongues out and are cooing like crazy trying to speak! They've also found their grip really well and enjoy using it on my hair!

Not sleeping through the night yet, but they have started sleeping anywhere from 3-4 hours in between bottles at night. So hopefully it will come soon? Stay tuned for their 2 month update on Friday! Can you believe I just said that... 2 MONTHS?!? Where did the time go??

Our First Trip is Coming...

We're taking our first trip with the twins next weekend. My cousin is getting married out in Ohio and we are making the trek out! Yup, we're flying! We will have my mom and step-father to help us out though, so hopefully it won't get too chaotic. Hopefully we won't be the loud ones on the flight.

I've been reading up on tips for flying though and hopefully it will help. I've heard that either feeding them or giving them the pacifier at take off and landing can help. We're going to pack a few changes of clothes, diapers, and we're getting the ready made formula bottles so we don't have to worry about mixing or heating. It's not a long flight so that should help as well. It will definitely be an experience, that's for sure. Any other tips I should know?
