35 Weeks...

How far along? 35 weeks!!
How big are the babies? Honeydews!
Best moment this week: Getting to see the little ones on the big screen. Can't believe how big they are getting!
Symptoms: Sleeping has become a challenge, a lot more pressure these days too
Movement: All the time!
Food cravings: Back to ice cream :)
Genders: A Boy and Girl!!!
Milestones: 35 weeks down, 35 days to go (in theory anyways)

Development: From now on, the babies' growth is mostly in the plumping up department -- though they won't get much longer, they'll put on a pound or more of baby fat before birth. (They're about 15 percent right now and will be about 30 percent by full-term.) Their hearing is totally developed (tip: baby responds best to higher pitches)

Ultrasound Update...

We had a follow up growth ultrasound yesterday and the twins are looking great. They are measuring perfectly! Cavan is weighing in at approximately 4lbs 15oz and Kaylie is coming in at approximately 5lbs 6oz! That's over 10lbs of baby in there! Trust me, I can definitely feel it!We didn't get any pictures to take home mainly because it's so crowded in there it's hard to get a good picture. Plus they were both facing backwards and hiding their faces. I'm also thinking a C-section will be inevitable. Mainly because Kaylie is still transverse (laying across my belly) and Cavan is breech right now. Either way they will be here within the next 4 weeks!!

34 Weeks...

How far along? 34 weeks!!
How big are the babies? Honeydews!
Best moment this week: Getting the Twin's hospital bag all packed
Symptoms: Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, my boobs are leaking a bit, and still a few contractions here and there.
Movement: All the time!
Food cravings: Milk! Although I haven't been able to get enough of it my whole pregnancy
Genders: A Boy and Girl!!!
Milestones: Made it to 34 weeks and so far so good!

Development: Babies can recognize and react to simple songs...time to start practicing your lullabies! In fact, babies will recognize frequently sung tunes after birth and probably find them soothing. Less cute news: they now urinate about one pint per day. Get the diapers ready!

Maternity Pictures...

So Ryan and I decided to do just a few fun little maternity pictures just to have. I had been going back and forth on whether or not I really wanted them done. So we decided to do them on our own. So here are our little maternity pictures! I will admit, these have been photoshopped a bit ;)

A New Symptom!

Oh wait, this one's not as fun. Recently I have been noticing a lot of pain in my fingers. At first I thought I had just slept on my hands wrong. Well then the other day I woke up and noticed my knuckles were black and blue. Well that's not normal. So I asked my Dr, and what was the diagnosis? Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Wait, what? Isn't that what you get when you sit at a computer all day? So why am I getting that now that I'm not at work??

Well I did a little research, and apparently this is a common symptom for many women during pregnancy. It can come on at any time, but primarily it shows up during the later part of pregnancy. Basically, according to BabyCenter.com, the carpal tunnel is a bony canal formed by the wrist bones on three sides and a ligament that runs across the wrist on the other. The swelling and fluid retention that's so common during pregnancy can increase the pressure in this relatively narrow and inflexible space, compressing the median nerve that runs through it.

The median nerve gives sensation to the thumb and the index, middle, and half of the ring finger and is responsible for movement of a muscle at the base of the thumb. Pressure on this nerve is what causes the symptoms.

Supposedly this will fade after the twins arrive, which did I mention will be no later than 4 1/2 weeks?!?

10th Appointment and a New Toy!

I had my 10th appointment today. It was actually pretty uneventful compared to the last few. I, of course, still have protein in my urine, but everything else is perfect so my Dr is not concerned at all. We then took a listen to the heartbeats and Kaylie was very cooperative giving us her heartbeat of 158 BPM right away. Cavan on the other hand continued his trend of playing hide and seek with the doppler. Everytime we get a quick blip of a heartbeat he would move out of position. We finally got him to stay in one place long enough to get his rate at 142 BPM. So they are doing just fine! Then I was on my way.

Now in other fun and exciting news, Ryan and I have bought a new twin friendly vehicle! It will be much better than his two door, two seat truck we had. We got a 2010 Jeep Liberty! Just picked it up today and I can't wait to drive it! This was also one of my goals on my 101 in 1001 challenge as well. So I wrote up a little more on that page and added pictures. 33 Weeks...

How far along? 33 weeks
How big are the babies? Honeydews!
Best moment this week:Waking up to flowers, chocolates, and a card that plays our wedding song :)
Symptoms:Still a few contractions here and there and I've definitely dropped.
Movement: All the time!
Food cravings: Still the Breyers Raspberry chocolate chip ice cream
Genders: A Boy and Girl!!!
Milestones: I started filling in the baby books for the twins!

Development: Things are heating up inside as well: Babies may grow up to a full inch this week alone, and their brains are developing like crazy. Pretty soon, they'll be able to coordinate breathing with sucking and swallowing. Also, their bones are hardening, and they've started to keep their eyes open when they're awake.

32 Weeks...

How far along? 32 weeks
How big are the babies? Squashes!
Best moment this week:Getting taken off strict bed rest and put back on modified bed rest!
Symptoms: I've had a few braxton hicks contractions here and there and a bit of back pain from the extra weight I'm toting these days.
Movement: All the time!
Food cravings: Breyers Raspberry chocolate chip ice cream! OMG, if you haven't tried it, you MUST!
Genders: A Boy and Girl!!!
Milestones: We put together all of our baby gear. Bassinets are ready; pack-n-play , bouncers, and stroller are all put together!

Development: Ready or not, the babies are getting ready to emerge. They're probably in the head-down position by now, with their bottoms facing up. This is the comfiest way for her body to fit in your increasingly cramped womb and will make their eventual exit (only a few months away now!) much easier. (If they're still head-up, don't panic -- there's still time for a flip before birth.)

So, How was Your Week?

Let me tell you a little bit about mine...

Monday: Ryan and I went for our growth ultrasound. It started off with the ultrasound tech telling us it looked like Baby B Who we have been referring to as Kaylie, aka a girl) was a boy. WHAT?!? So of course I was a little thrown off by that. I kept asking if we could check Baby A's gender to confirm and she just kept saying, we'll get to that.

Well she checked and it appears that there was some overlapping going on and Baby B is still a girl and Baby A is still a boy. *PHEW* we don't need to make any trips to Babies R Us to make any exchanges! So they appear to be growing perfectly. In fact, Kaylie is weighing about 4lbs 7oz and Cavan is weighing in at about 4lbs 2oz! We were shocked that they are so big already, although I can definitely feel the weight!

Wednesday: I had a Dr's appointment, and this is where things get interesting. It appears that I have some protein in my urine. This could be nothing, but could also indicate the first signs of pre-eclampsia. However, my blood pressure was perfectly normal. So I was sent for more blood work (surprise, surprise), another urine sample, and they checked my blood pressure again to make sure it hadn't gone up. Well it didn't go up.

So I was then put on strict bed rest and had to do a 24-hour urine collection (If you've never had to do, be grateful. It was very gross). So Ryan and I took up residence with my Mom and Step-Father so there would be someone there with me at all times since I could only get up to pee and eat.

Friday: Went in for my follow up appointment and to drop off my jug-o-pee. We had a little ultrasound first to check on the little ones and they were great in there. My Dr. said she couldn't believe their weights. She said it was great that they were that big at this stage and that the weight they are at now is typical of a baby at 35 weeks, so we are ahead of the curve. We still don't want them coming for another few weeks though.

I was then told the news I wanted to hear, back to just modified bed rest! My blood pressure hadn't changed at all! So we scheduled another ultrasound for 34 weeks and I was sent on my way!

Now let's just hope these babies keep cooking at least until March!
