Best moment this week: Spending Thanksgiving with our families
Symptoms: It is beginning to become more and more difficult to walk up and down stairs without feeling like I just ran a marathon!
Movement: They are rolling and kicking all the time! Now several friends and family have felt them!
Food cravings: Pretty much anything anyone mentions
Genders: A Boy and Girl!!!
Milestones: Seeing a bit of outside movement!

Development: Babies' settling into sleep cycles, snoozing about 12 to 14 hours a day. It shouldn't be hard to figure out when -- just pay attention to those kicks as they start and stop.


Headlines from the week:

21 Weeks...

Best moment this week: Putting a big dent into clearing out the babies' room
Symptoms: I feel very heavy!
Movement: Tons!
Food cravings: Pretty much anything anyone mentions
Genders: A Boy and Girl!!!
Milestones: 5 Months down!

Development: Babies' digestive systems are busy creating meconium (a tarry black substance made of swallowed amniotic fluid, digestive secretion, and dead cells), which will fill the first diaper after birth. And, if baby is a girl, her womb is now stocked up with her lifetime supply of six million eggs (the number will drop to around one million by birth).

20 Weeks...

How far along? 20 weeks
How big are the babies? Cantaloupes!
Best moment this week: Picking out the babies' names! We will be welcoming Kaylie Shea and Cavan Michael!
Symptoms: Starting to tire much easier than before. I just can't hang like I used to.
Movement: Oh yes! They are moving a lot now, and Ryan actually felt some movement last night too!
Food cravings: Pretty much anything anyone mentions
Genders: A Boy and Girl!!!
Milestones: Feeling actual movements and not just flutters!

Development: Babies gulp down several ounces of amniotic fluid every day, both for nutrition and to practice swallowing and digesting. And, these days, those taste buds actually work! Studies show that after birth, babies respond best to tastes they've already had via amniotic fluid. Meaning, think about what you'd like your future child to eat as you prepare your own lunch.

Boston is getting ready to welcome its official Christmas tree. The 46-foot white spruce begins its journey from Nova Scotia this week and is scheduled to arrive at the Boston Common Friday. The Canadian province gives the city a Christmas tree each year as thanks for Boston’s relief efforts after a munitions ship exploded in Halifax Harbor in 1917.

They are Forming Opinions...

So I watch this show on Monday nights called "Accidentally on Purpose" starring Jenna Elfman. Basically she got pregnant off a one-night-stand with a younger guy and they are now living together and going through the pregnancy together. Needless to say it's a pretty funny show that has remained a staple on the Monday night line-up since it premiered. ANYWAYS, in one of the episodes she was eating ribs and her baby began kicking so she ran to tell the guy and phrased it as "Tha baby's first opinion". The baby either likes or dislikes ribs, but they don't know which, they were just so excited the baby had an opinion.

My point of this tv moment promotion (CBS you can send the endorsement check directly to me) is that everytime I feel the babies kick, which has become more prominent lately, I think of them forming little opinions about what I'm doing at that moment. Yesterday I was on the train and one of them was kicking away (I believe it was baby boy) meaning he either likes or dislikes the train. This morning I had my Friday treat, Dunkins pumpkin decaf coffee, and they both were kicking. I personally think they were "like" kicks because who doesn't love pumpkin coffee in the fall? Then just a few minutes ago a Michael Jackson song came on the radio and I believe it was baby girl who was kicking away.

It's such an amazing feeling knowing that there are two babies moving around in there, expressing there opinions the only way they know how right now. It's almost like a fun little way for me to begin learning things about them. I can't wait for Ryan to be able to share in the experience and feel there opinions as well. Now I just hope they don't get too rough when they feel very strongly about something.

19 Weeks... Ooooh we're half way there!

How far along? 19 weeks
How big are the babies? Mangos!
Best moment this week: Registering for all the babies' goodies!
Symptoms: I'm getting BIG and my belly button is getting very shallow
Movement: Still just a few little flutters
Food cravings: Chocolate!
Genders: A Boy and Girl!!!
Milestones: Since my OB will not let me go past 38 weeks, I am halfway through my pregnancy!! AHHHH!

Development: Vernix caseosa, a greasy white substance made of lanugo, oil, and dead skin cells (yum) now coats babies' skin, shielding it from the amniotic fluid. (Picture yourself after a nine-month bath, and the need for protection makes sense.) You might get to see the vernix at birth, especially if baby is premature.

Pediatrician - Check!

We can now cross one item off our to-do list. The twins have a pediatrician! Thanks to my wonderful Sister-in-Law, the twins will be going to the same pediatrician as their cousin Ava. I am so happy to have one thing set in place. Now only 499 things left!

18 Weeks and BIG ULTRASOUND!

Today was the BIG day! I'm going to start with the ultrasound and then go into the weekly update. So we went in for the ultrasound today! We both get nervous every time we get an ultrasound, but we also get so excited. First things first, heartbeats are perfect! We then move on to the measurements and they were measuring perfectly on schedule. They looked so perfect on the big screen. We just fall in love every time we see them.

So on to the BIG reveal! It's....a....BOY...and a GIRL! Congrats to all those who voted. Not to rub it in, but that was my guess as well while Ryan thought they were 2 boys. We are thrilled to be getting the best of both worlds and now can't wait for the next half of this pregnancy to pass so we can hold them in our arms. We did get some new pictures for all to see. Although we are saving the money shots for our personal collection as we don't want our children to be exhibitionists so early in life. So here they are!

Best moment this week: Finding out what our little babies are!
Symptoms: I apparently can no longer lay flat on my back as it puts pressure on my blood vessels and makes me sick.
Movement: A few little flutters
Food cravings: Decaf pumpkin spice Dunkin Donuts coffee!
Genders: A Boy and Girl!!!
Milestones: Big ultrasound! Our babies look perfect

Development: Babies' have become amazingly mobile (compared to you, at least), passing the hours yawning, hiccupping, rolling, twisting, kicking, punching, sucking, and swallowing. And the babies are finally big enough that you'll soon be able to feel her movements.
